When you adopt a dog through us, 100% of the adoption fee goes towards the well being of the dogs in our care. In return for this adoption fee, you adopt a dog who is micro chipped, up to date with vaccinations and vet care. We also cover the spay or neuter surgery for each dog, as per our adoption contract.
Puppies and dogs under 2 years: $750
Dogs aged between 2 and 8 years: $550
Dogs aged 8 years and up: $350
We are a Canadian registered non-profit rescue organization located in beautiful British Columbia. Our team and adoption center are located in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island.
If you're interested in adopting one of our dogs or becoming a foster parent, the first step is to fill out our application. This gives us a general idea of who you are and what you're looking for in a companion. After reviewing your application, we will determine if we currently have a possible match in our care. If so, one of our volunteers will follow up with a phone call to get more clarification about your application and answer any questions you might have for us. Other steps in our application process, include conversations with your references and a home safety visit from one of our volunteers. Once this process is completed, a meet and greet with a dog would be set up to see if your family and the dog are a good fit for each other. Prior to a dog moving into an adoptive or foster home, our foster or adoption agreement gets signed by the applicant and our rescue representative.
Allow us to introduce the humans behind FERN! Our core team consists of Cydney, Darien and Lee (Kimberlee).
Cydney and Darien are life partners who have always shared their compassion and love for animals. During one of their many travels, they visited a sanctuary in Portugal which inspired them to create a similar experience on Vancouver Island. Cydney and Darien are proud parents of rescue dogs Obi and Willow and their adopted cats Frankie and Winnie.
Lee has always been a huge animal lover, As soon as she moved to a home with a yard, she adopted senior dog Kira, an 11 year old Malamute who had spent the majority of her life neglected and lonely. Kira lived her final years being loved, warm and going on adventures with Lee. Lee started getting actively involved with dog rescue after moving from Belgium to Canada in 2017. Lee and her partner Henry are parents to rescue dogs Oreo and Bear. Lee has fostered many dogs over the years and volunteered countless hours matching up dogs with their forever families.
Lee and Cydney met while volunteering together. A friendship grew and common dreams surfaced! The seed of FERN was planted!
We are a non-profit society run by volunteers. We don’t receive any funding other than donations from kind individuals. You can help by donating items such as dog accessories in good condition. This may look like leashes, collars, harnesses, toys, blankets, crates, and exercise pens. Unopened bags of dog food or treats are very helpful. Monetary donations are always welcome and go towards our veterinary bills and other costs related to the dogs in our care. E-transfers can be sent to info@fureverendeavour.ca.
We also have an account at the Port Alberni Return-It depot. If you have empties you’d like to donate, you can do this conveniently by using their express drop-off and selecting our FERN account under the telephone number 250-736-0788.
Our most important goal is helping dogs find their forever homes. In order to find that special match, reaching people and spreading the word about the wonderful companions in our care, is crucial. Please share our website, Facebook page, and tell people about us. Your support in these ways helps us and the dogs more than you might think!
Volunteers are the driving force behind each rescue organization. We promise you this: as a volunteer for FERN, you will feel appreciated, your input will be welcomed with open arms, you will get ALL the doggy-lovin’ and you will be part of a caring, fun, passionate team!
